Nonprofit: Nurturing a Local Church from Grass Roots to Positive Financial Growth

A local Church approached Peggy Topel-Jennings, audit partner. Their congregation was growing, they were adding more programs for their members, and felt the need to start a fundraising program to support their projected growth. They had never had financial statements prepared as their accounting records were maintained by volunteer Church members on personal home computers. Peggy reviewed their internal controls and made recommendations to improve their accounting process. She advised the Church on accounting software options and helped them set up a general ledger system so they would be better able to control their accounting records. The Church is now on a solid footing, and on its way to future financial statement engagements.
